Unclear terror bill gives Sting sweeping new powers

A badly worded amendment to new anti-terror laws, written at the last minute, has given the band The Police the power to keep suspects in custody indefinitely without charge.

The band The Police have often been used by civil law-enforcement agency 'the police' in civil disorder cases such as 1984's Live Aid.

This legislation comes at a bad time for the government. The newly reformed Spice Girls were last week granted the right to try 'hard-to-understand' fraud cases without recourse to a jury and ex-Bananarama singer Siobhan Fahey was given a 007-style 'licence to kill'.

Former Police guitarist Henry Padovani, who was replaced by Andy Summers in 1977, is not covered by the new law, which he described as "the last bloody insult".
